Jussie Smollett to Be Sued by City of Chicago

The city of Chicago is planning on filing a lawsuit against Jussie Smollett to recoup the $130,000 in overtime expenses it cost for the investigation into the actor’s police report.

While Jussie maintains his innocence, the police department says that he filed a false police report. The Empire actor was accused of faking a hate crime against himself, but he is not facing any criminal charges for his actions.

The city sent a bill for $130,106.15 to Jussie and gave him one week to pay, but he refuses to pay the amount.

Mr. Smollett has refused to reimburse the City of Chicago for the cost of police overtime spent investigating his false police report on Jan. 29, 2019,” the city said in a statement (via Variety). “The Law Department is now drafting a civil complaint that will be filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County… The Law Department will file the suit in the near future. As part of this legal action, the Law Department will pursue the full measure of damages allowed under the ordinance.”
