Star Wars IX finally has a title – and a trailer!
The movie will be called The Rise of Skywalker, as revealed during the first teaser trailer released on Friday (April 12) at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, Ill.
“This movie, in addition to being the end of three trilogies, it also has to work as its own movie. It’s about this new generation and what they’ve inherited the light and the dark, and asking the question as they face the greatest evil, are they prepared? Are they ready?” director J.J. Abrams told the crowd. Find out what else he said!
Notable scenes from the trailer include, the return of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Carlrissian, the medal of Yavin that was featured in the original Star Wars, remnants of a destroyed Death Star in the background, and the epic evil laughter of Emperor Palpatine from the original trilogy.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
