Lili Reinhart Slams 'Game of Thrones' Fans Petitioning for Season 8 Redo

Lili Reinhart has a message for Game of Thrones fans.

After the hit HBO show’s most recent episode, fans started a petition insisting that season eight gets a complete redo. It already has over one million signatures.

After learning about the petition, the 22-year-old Riverdale star voiced her opinion about how upset this made her.

“This is not how television works,” Lili wrote on Instagram. “TV shows are not fan service. It’s ridiculous of people to think they can demand creative change from artists.”

Lili‘s reaction didn’t go over well with GoT fans, so she took to her Instagram Story again this time to respond to the backlash.

“It’s inappropriate as an audience member to demand change from an entire crew of writers, creators, performers, etc. just because it did not satisfy you,” Lili wrote. “Fans, of course, are an incredibly large reason why shows are successful…But it does not excuse certain destructive and disrespectful behavior toward people who have dedicated their entire lives to creating a show or film.”

The Game of Thrones series finale airs on Sunday night, May 19 at 9pm ET on HBO.

That’s nice dear, you’re just as stupid as the petition signers.

Another day another thing for her to moan about.

  • Sansa Squad

“TV shows are not fan service” says one of the stars of RIVERDALE lmao…

  • Sansa Squad

In all seriousness, her opinion is correct but her reasoning is way off. Fans are pissed because they’ve invested years in a show that hasn’t been good in 5 seasons, and whose weak writing only ever seemed passable because they had excellent source material to base it off of. “Fan service” is exactly WHY this season has caught people so off guard – because D&D have been writing Dany as a ~badass warrior queen~ to service the FANS who loved her, when the books were always working consistently towards this conclusion, and they now have to pivot to reach the same ending. What she SHOULD be saying is: Look, if you’re going to be mad at someone, be mad at yourselves for not realizing Game of Thrones is more of a soap opera than a highbrow, nuanced drama, and channel that energy into fighting for something that actually matters. There are way scarier and more unjust things happening in the world.

I’m sure Sandor Clegane would tell her to shut her c$nt mouth. I would tell her to in person if given the opportunity. Meanwhile at the end of the day more than twice the population of Manhattan will sign the petition summarily telling her to go f$ck herself. Riverdale is trash anyhow.

  • Thiran Uthaman

I agree with her. The petition is a child’s tantrum.

  • Avi Greenhut

Right moron. When the petition outnumbers the population of Manhattan you fall into the demographic of reason challenged. Meanwhile the shows biggest star is openly disgusted with the final season. So you can take your middle finger salute and shove it up your a$$ “dear”

  • Hypnotist

Just because there are a lot of you doesn’t mean you all aren’t stupid.

  • Max

A show is nothing but fan service. fans are people who dedicate a lot of time to watch a show. without people watching a show, she is without employment. so actually, while i agree the petition is disrespectful, she got it all wrong. and the producers of game of thrones should take the time to evaluate what they probably did wrong.

It’s a business about money like others. It’s the vision of those in charge. Advertising is even as much about time slot and channel service as it it about the actual programming. They’re not going through the time and expense of changes unless the payout would be incredulously significant. Not everyone will always be happy with an outcome of a show, movie, or whatever. The fans will still buy the memorabilia. That will bring in billions. It isn’t about fan service by request but about the bottom line of currency.

  • MyName

I guess she is expected to lie because she’s an actress. It’s silly that she can’t share an honest opinion. The signers should be raising the amount of money it would take.

The consensus by almost everyone is they mucked up this season for no reason other than the fact that the show-runners arbitrarily decided that this would be a 75 hour series and that was not enough time to fully develop all the characters and tie up loose ends. Period.

The petition is not serious but it will effect the ability of the show runners negatively in the future. It’s not good press and not how networks want to end hit shows.
