David Ortiz aka Big Papi is currently in the hospital after being shot during a burglary in the Dominican Republic, where he’s from.

The 43-year-old retired Boston Red Sox player’s father revealed the news to ESPN.

“They called to tell me that David is injured and that they took him to a medical center, but they did not tell me how he is or exactly where he was transferred,” Leo Ortiz told the sports publication.

One source noted that David had been shot in the leg.

David‘s close friend Alex Rodriguez sent his prayers and thoughts to David and his family. The pair are both analysts on Fox Sports.

“Anxiously waiting for more news. In the meantime, only prayers for @davidortiz, Tiffany and their family,” he wrote on Twitter.
