Sylvia Miles Dead - 'Midnight Cowboy' & 'Farewell My Lovely' Actress Dies at 94

Sylvia Miles has sadly passed away.

The actress – who was Oscar-nominated for Midnight Cowboy and Farewell, My Lovely – died on Wednesday (June 12) at her home in New York, Variety reports.

Her friends, journalist Michael Musto and actress Geraldine Smith, confirmed her death.

Michael, who was set to appear with Geraldine and Sylvia in an indie film, shared, “She was one of my first celebrity interviews (in the 1970s) and was charismatic and career-driven. She’d run up to directors at Studio 54 and say ‘Hire me!’ She was very proud of her two Oscar nominations.”

Geraldine said that “her family was her New York friends,” adding that she had been excited to act again.

Sylvia, who was known for wearing lively outfits and hats on the red carpet, also starred in Heat, The Last Movie, Evil Under the Sun, Wall Street, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, She-Devil, and the pilot episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show as Sally Rogers.

Sylvia also made headlines for dumping a plate of food on critic John Simon’s head following a negative review.
