Jared Lorenzen Dead - Former Giants Quarterback Dies at 38

Jared Lorenzen has sadly died at 38.

The NFL athlete, who played as a quarterback for the Giants, died on Wednesday (July 3), his family confirmed in a statement.

Jared‘s cause of death was due to heart and kidney issues, as well as an infection. He had been hospitalized less than a week prior to his passing.

“Please keep Jared’s family and especially his children, in your thoughts and prayers,” the family said.

He was signed in 2004 as an undrafted free agent to the Giants, and spent four seasons with the team. He also earned a Super Bowl ring during Super Bowl XLII as Eli Manning‘s backup.

Jared was a special person, and a beloved Giant. He was an important member of our 2007 team, one that created its own destiny. Our thoughts are with Jared’s family and friends who loved and appreciated him so much, just as our organization and fans did,” The Giants said in a statement.

In addition to his football career, Jared documented his weight loss, having weighed over 500 pounds at one point, in a series called “The Jared Lorenzen Project,” documenting his loss of more than 100 pounds.

He still holds the University of Kentucky records for career passing yards (10,354) and single-game passing yards (528), and ranks second in program history in career passing touchdowns (78).

Our thoughts are with Jared‘s loved ones at this difficult time.
