Blu-Ray and Digital HD Releases

Alita: Battle Angel

Based on the popular anime, Alita: Battle Angel arrives on 4K, Blu-ray, and digital HD today.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez and co-produced by Avatar’s James Cameron, this action packed CGI wonder of a film follows a cyborg heroine who wakes up in a new body and no memories as she figures out her destiny.

Starring Maze Runner‘s Rosa Salazar as Alita, the film has a strong supporting cast including Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, and Mahershala Ali.

Extras in this release include a featurette on the environments, the process of Manga to the big screen, the evolution of Alita, and much more.

Another feature of this release that was unexpected was it included a 3D disc, a rarity these days. So for those still rocking a 3D TV, this is one of the fewer newer releases that still feature a 3D option.

Despite being a CGI heavy film, Alita is enjoyable with some great action sequences and awe-inducing worlds. This is a great pickup, especially if you haven’t caught the film yet when it hit theaters.

Hellboy

In a world of reboots, fan favorite, Hellboy arrives today.

Based on Mike Mignola‘s graphic novel series, Hellboy comes to England where he faces an ancient evil being named Nimue the Blood Queen who is resurrected to seek revenge on the world.

Fans of the original theatrical release by Guillermo del Toro will find a fresh take on this version directed by Neil Marshall. The film is presented much more like a horror genre film with updated special effects and a new story that follows the graphic novels a little more closely.

Extras include a three-part documentary, deleted scenes, and some basic computer animated storyboards for some of the scenes in the film. The video and audio quality of this release is pretty admirable which is finished in 2160 Ultra High Definition format and a Dolby Atmos audio mix.

Though the film is lacking in story-telling, the visuals are fantastic (though gruesome) and would appease to horror fans.
