HBO Finally Responds to 'Game of Thrones' Petition Demanding Season 8 Reshoot

HBO programming chief Casey Bloys is addressing that fan petition that went viral requesting the network reshoot season eight of Game of Thrones after the backlash over everything that happened in the final season.

“There are very, very few downsides to having a hugely popular show, but one I can think of is when you try to end it, many people have big opinions on how it should end. The petition shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the show, but it wasn’t something that we seriously considered,” Casey told Variety.

Several plot points made fans very displeased, including one key story line in the fifth episode of season eight titled, “The Bells.” Daenerys and her dragon Drogon burn down King’s Landing, killing many innocent civilians in what fans deemed an out-of-character move.

Casey also said that HBO did not have much interaction with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss during the final seasons.

“When a show is in its sixth, seventh or eighth season, by that point there’s usually a rhythm between showrunners and the network as to what they expect,” Casey added.

Casey also commented on the Thrones prequel show starring Naomi Watts.

“Shooting has wrapped, it looks really good. The cast was amazing, Jane (Goldman) and SJ (Clarkson) are busy in the edit bay.”
