The Secret Life of Pets 2

Following up the animated hit from 2016, The Secret Life of Pets 2 arrives on Blu-ray and Digital HD.

Through a brief montage of scenes, we find the lovable beagle Max going through sudden changes as his owner gets married and has a baby. While Max is preoccupied and worried for the safety of the new family member, meanwhile we find Snowball the rabbit convinced he’s a superhero and must set out to save a circus animal. At the same time, Gidget, a Pomeranian with a heavy crush on Max is tasked with watching his favorite toy while Max is away on vacation. Phew!

The new animated film feels like a jumble of short stories, but still is very entertaining. Most notably, the film boasts a decent voice cast including Kevin Hart, Patton Oswalt, Tiffany Haddish, and even Harrison Ford.

Bonus features include a pair of mini movies, one that stars the lovable Minions. Other extras include deleted scenes, making of featurettes, and a closer look at each character. The 4k offering includes an interactive comic, and a few more documentary style features.

Though it’s always hard for a sequel to live up to the first film, there’s enough laughs here to be worth a gander, especially if you have kids that loved the first one.
