Renee Zellweger Explains Why She Felt Torn About Talking with Judy Garland's Kids About 'Judy' Role

Renee Zellweger is all smiles as stops by Sirius XM’s Town Hall for an interview on Thursday afternoon (September 5) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The 50-year-old Oscar-winning actress sported a chic tan jumpsuit as she promoted her new movie Judy with host Jess Cagle. You can watch a video from the interview here!

During a recent interview, Renee revealed why she felt torn about asking Judy Garland‘s kids Liza Minelli, Lorna Luft, and Joey Luft about their mom as she worked on the movie.

“I wanted to reach out not to ask questions, except to maybe ask what they would like or hope to see,” Renee shared with the Duluth News Tribune. “I figured that whatever was for public consumption, they had already shared at this point. I could find that. I wouldn’t dream of calling and asking, ‘Hey, what else can you share here? Because that’d be so helpful.’ To me, what they haven’t shared is treasure and that belongs to them and that’s where it should stay.”

Renee said did she tried to reach out to Liza through a mutual friend, but it didn’t work out. Also at the time filming began, Lorna was just diagnosed with a brain tumor, and Renee felt it wasn’t appropriate.

“That was a time for her and her family, not for a stranger to approach her about things that ultimately don’t matter, right?” Renee added.

Judy hits theaters on September 27th.
