'The Muppets' Disney+ Comedy Series Canceled

The Muppets comedy series reboot that was planned for Disney+ is no longer going forward.

Creators Josh Gad, Adam Horowitz, and Eddy Kitsis and have scrapped the scripted show – Muppets Live Another Day – over “creative differences amid an executive change” at the Muppets Studios, THR reports.

Although the project – which the creators had been referring to as Muppets 1984 – was never officially announced, it has reportedly been in the works since at least February.

The eight-episode limited series would have taken place after the events of Muppets Take Manhattan. Adam and Eddy had been working with Muppets Studios vp Debbie McClellan.

When Debbie recently exited, Disney CEO Bob Iger reportedly signed on Disney Parks Live Entertainment senior vp David Lightbody to take over Muppets Studios. David, however, reportedly wanted to put his own spin on The Muppets, while Josh Gad, Adam Horowitz, and Eddy Kitsis believed strongly in their own vision.

The parting was reportedly “amicable.”

The unscripted shortform Disney+ series Muppets Now will still be going forward when the streaming service debuts on November 12.
