Sam Smith Gives Emotional Speech on Second 'Coming Out' at Attitude Awards 2019

Sam Smith is reflecting on their journey of self discovery.

The 27-year-old Grammy winner stepped out in a lace, emerald-green outfit as they arrived at the 2019 Attitude Awards on Wednesday (October 9) at The Roundhouse on Wednesday (October 9) in London, England.

During the event, Sam was honored with the publication’s 2019 Person of the Year award and took to the stage to give an emotional speech about their journey as coming out as non-binary and genderqueer.

“This is incredibly overwhelming,” Sam said. “Thank you so much to everyone in this room. Tonight, just watching all of you has just been amazing, and I’m so honored to be in this room with you all.”

Sam then went on to say that 2019 has felt like “a wild ride of self-realization, and has almost felt like a second coming out.”
