Broadway Musical 'Tootsie' Sets Closing Date for January

The Broadway musical Tootsie will close in January 2020 after an eight-month run.

The producers of the musical have announced that the final show at New York City’s Marquis Theatre will take place on January 5 following 293 regular and 25 preview performances.

Santino Fontana stars in the musical as Michael Dorsey, the role originated by Dustin Hoffman in the film version. He won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and the show also took home the award for Best Book of a Musical.

A touring production of the musical will kick off in Buffalo, N.Y. in October 2020. Casting, exact dates, and additional cities will be announced in the future.

Tootsie tells the story of a talented but difficult actor who struggles to find work until one show-stopping act of desperation lands him the role of a lifetime – as the star of a new Broadway musical.
