Tom Cruise Is 'Too Old' For Action Films, According to 'Jack Reacher' Author

Tom Cruise may not have any more action films in his future, according to Jack Reacher author Lee Child.

The 57-year-old actor starred in two Jack Reacher films before it was transitioned into a TV series, but Lee says Tom is now too old for those kinds of roles.

“Cruise was reluctant. He had his own investments in it, he was going to argue against it,” Lee told The Times of the decision to end Jack Reacher films.

He added, “It sounds extremely patronizing, but I think it’s good for him. He’s too old for this stuff. He’s 57, he needs to move on, transition to being a character actor. He could get another 20 years out of it. He is talented. He’s a terrific guy, very considerate, good fun.”

Despite Lee‘s critique, Tom has done three action films since Jack Reacher ended – The Mummy, American Made and Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

Additionally, Tom will star in Top Gun: Maverick next year and Mission: Impossible 7 in 2021.
