Roman Polanski Wins Best Director at Cesar Awards, Walkouts Follow

Roman Polanski was honored with the best director award at the 2020 Cesar Awards, and the crowd was not happy about it, Variety reports.

The 86-year-old An Officer and a Spy director was not present at the event (to avoid being “lynched,” he said beforehand) which took place at the Salle Pleyel on Friday (February 28) in Paris, France.

The cast and crew of An Officer and a Spy were also not in attendance.

After Roman‘s win was announced, various walkouts ensued, including by nominee Adele Haenel, star of Portrait of a Lady on Fire.

An Officer and a Spy was nominated for 12 awards and also won best adapted screenplay and costume.

A protest of over 100 people took place in front the venue by advocacy group Osez le Feminisme.

Roman Polanski was accused of raping a French actress in 1975. Find out more here.
