Pete‘s decision comes after a crushing loss in the South Carolina primary the day before where he wasn’t able to gain the support of black Democratic voters.

Pete narrowly won the Iowa caucuses back in early February and came in a strong second place in the New Hampshire primary, but wasn’t able to gain the support of nonwhite voters.

Pete made history as the first openly gay man to run as a presidential candidate.

Pete is now the second candidate to drop out of the race after results from the South Carolina primary came in. Find out who also dropped out here.
