Belgium's King Philippe & Queen Mathilde Reschedule Trip To Italy Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium have rescheduled their state trip to Italy following the outbreak of coronavirus cases.

The reigning monarchs were expected to visit the area from March 23 to March 25, alongside the Minister of Foreign Affairs & Defense.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella was the one who requested that the visit be postponed because of the virus that’s quickly spreading.

A Belgian Royal Court spokesperson confirmed the postponed trip.

“At the request of the President of the Italian Republic, the State Visit by HM King and HM The Queen is postponed to a later date. The visit was planned from 23rd to 25th March 2020. The current phase of corona epidemic and the implementation of new emergency measures by the Italian authorities means it is not possible to carry out the visit’s programme.”

Coronavirus fears have cancelled many other events happening, including Amazon pulling out of the SXSW festival and filming for Amazing Race.
