Halsey Officially Endorses Bernie Sanders for President (Video)

The 25-year-old “You Should Be Sad” singer revealed that she is endorsing the 78-year-old U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential candidate on Tuesday (March 10).

“I am officially endorsing Bernie Sanders for president,” Halsey says in an Instagram video. “Bernie has been fighting for me since before I was alive… a queer woman in a multi-racial family who was raised poor in an American suburb. A woman who got into the college of her dreams and couldn’t afford to go. A person physically tormented by a reproductive health disorder that I couldn’t afford to treat.”

“So today, I fight for her too,” Halsey adds. “That girl, who wasn’t protected.”

She also wrote in her Stories, along with a screenshot from a 2016 article about her support for Bernie, “Technically it’s a re-endorsement! Bernie 2020!”

I first endorsed Bernie in 2016. A candidate not beholden to the ruling class. A candidate who was fighting against the effects of marginalization that impacted me (a queer woman, raised poor in an American suburb in a multiracial family) for my entire life. No matter my life and status have changed since then, one thing has always remained the same: There is no amount of money I could ever make or keep that I would EVER choose over the pursuit of more equally distributed resources for ALL. There is no system of benefits that could justify my participation in rigging American institutions for personal gain and wealth consolidation. When I look at some of the other candidates, or members of my newfound class, I see actions that have nothing to do with being wealthy and everything to do with being selfish. That’s why I am officially (re)endorsing Bernie Sanders for president.
