56% of Californians Expected to Get Coronavirus in Next 8 Weeks, Gavin Newsom Says

Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, has revealed some very unsettling data about coronavirus.

The governor wrote a letter to President Trump and said that health officials in the state expect that 56% of all Californians will be infected with COVID-19 within the next eight weeks.

Newsom has requested that the Navy ship USNS Mercy, the largest hospital ship in the world, be deployed to the state.

“The acquisition of the Mercy here off the coast of the state of California would provide additional 1,000 bed capacity, provides support for pharmacists and other diagnostic equipment,” Newsom said in the letter (via ABC).

“This resource will help decompress the health care delivery system to allow the Los Angeles region to ensure that it has the ability to address critical acute care needs, such as heart attacks and strokes or vehicle accidents, in addition to the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases,” he added.

Out of the 13,322 confirmed cases in the U.S. at the time of this post, 894 of them are located in California. There have been 17 deaths in the state.
