Dyson Invents Portable Ventilator Amid Crisis

Dyson, known for its’ vacuums, has redirected and is now making portable ventilators to help combat the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.

According to People, inventor James Dyson took just 10 days to invent the new product, which will aid medical professionals in the worldwide ventilator shortage.

The device is called CoVent and can be “manufactured quickly, efficiently and at volume,” a release states.

“A ventilator supports a patient who is no longer able to maintain their own airways, but sadly there is currently a significant shortage, both in the U.K. and other countries around the world,” the letter continued. “The core challenge was how to design and deliver a new, sophisticated medical product in volume and in an extremely short space of time. The race is now on to get it into production.”

The U.K. government has ordered 10,000 CoVents from Dyson to help treat the country’s coronavirus patients, and the company is set to donate an additional 5,000 units around the world.
