Spanish Princess Is the First Royal to Die from Coronavirus

Princess Maria Teresa of Bourbon-Parma, who was the cousin of Spain’s King Felipe IV, is the first royal to die from coronavirus.

The 86-year-old royal family member died on Thursday (March 26) in Paris at the age of 86. A mass was held in her honor the next day in Madrid.

“On this afternoon… our sister Maria Teresa de Borbon Parma and Borbon Busset, victim of the coronavirus COVID-19, died in Paris at the age of eighty-six,” her brother Prince Sixto Enrique de Borbon, the Duke of Aranjuez, announced.

Maria Teresa, who grew up in France, was known for advocating for women’s rights and socialist ideas.

While King Felipe has tested negative for coronavirus, there are some other royals who have tested positive. Both Prince Charles of Great Britain and Prince Albert of Monaco have tested positive.
