Attorneys for Lori and husband Mossimo Giannulli argued that federal agents “entrapped them,” and that the admissions consultant at the center of the case, William “Rick” Singer, was coached to “bend the truth” in recorded conversations with parents, according to Variety.

Judge Nathaniel Gorton ruled that agents did not commit misconduct, and denied the defense motion.

“After consideration of the extensive briefing, affidavits and other information provided by the government and defendants, the Court is satisfied that the government has not lied to or misled the Court,” adding that agents were trying “to get Singer to corroborate, not fabricate, evidence.”

The judge also pointed out that the defense will have the opportunity to cross-examine William Singer at trial.

Lori and Mossimo are accused of paying $500,000 to get their daughters into University of Southern California. They are still set to go on trial in October on charges of fraud, bribery and money laundering. Photos of Lori‘s daughters posing on rowing machines, who allegedly applied claiming they were on crew teams, have been released.
