Johnny Depp's Libel Case Against The Sun Newspaper Can Use Testimony From Amber Heard's Former Assistant

Johnny Depp has been granted permission to use testimony from ex wife Amber Heard‘s former assistant in his libel case against The Sun.

The Guardian reports that a High Court justice ruled that the 56-year-old actor’s team will be able to use Kate James‘ testimony in his case.

However, he will not be able to use testimony from David Killackey, a mechanic who worked for the former couple.

“I refuse to the claimant [Depp] permission to call Mr Killackey. I give permission to [Depp] to call Ms James to give evidence [to a limited] extent,” the decision read.

Johnny is suing The Sun‘s publisher and executive editor over a 2018 article in which he was referred as a “wife-beater.”

If you recall, Kate James accused Amber of being verbally and mentally abusive towards her.

A spokesperson for Amber reacted to the ruling of the testimony, saying that “Mr Depp’s team has been attempting to introduce irrelevant evidence. This is one of the defining characteristics of their strategy – to adduce irrelevant evidence designed to smear Ms Heard and distract from the facts so that people do not focus on Mr. Depp’s behaviour.”

During the case, Johnny has also accused the paper of hacking his phone for the improper articles that were published.
