Venice Film Festival 2020 Is Still Happening in September Amid Pandemic

The 2020 Venice Film Festival is happening this September.

The world’s longest running film festival will be going on just as planned, Luca Zaia, governor of Veneto, confirmed on Sunday (May 24), via Variety.

The event is scheduled to take place from September 2 to September 12.

“Venice surveyed a wide range of film industry executives in early May to ask for concerns and suggestions about the upcoming edition. The letter, which was signed by Venice’s artistic director Alberto Barbera, was meant to gauge how many filmmakers, talent and producers are willing to turn up at the fest,” Variety reported.

“We know that it would be simply impossible to plan a festival without knowing if you all are willing to use the Festival to give a new start and a strong sign for keeping cinema alive, even in these difficult times,” Alberto wrote in the letter.

Based on the responses, organizers are “confident” that the festival will go on as planned.

That said, most other events are being postponed or canceled due to the pandemic. Find out what else…
