Singer Amy Grant Undergoes Open Heart Surgery

Amy Grant is doing good following open heart surgery.

The 59-year-old singer underwent surgery today (June 3) to fix a heart condition that she’s had since birth.

“She had open heart surgery to correct a condition from birth the doctors discovered during a heart check up called PAPVR,” Amy‘s rep shared in a statement regarding the singer’s health. “Thankfully the doctor said it could not have gone better. We’re praying for a full and easy recovery over the next few days, weeks, and months to come.”

Her condition, called partial anomalous pulmonary venous return, was discovered by physicians during a routine checkup earlier this year.

PAPVR causes one or more of the pulmonary veins carrying blood from the lungs to the heart to flow into other blood vessels or into the heart’s right atrium, instead of entering the heart’s left atrium.

Amy has been married to country singer Vince Gill for 20 years.
