SZA Calls Out CrossFit CEO for Mocking Pandemic & George Floyd Protests

SZA is calling out CrossFit CEO, Greg Glassman.

The 29-year-old “Love Galore” singer posted a message on Sunday (June 7) denouncing the fitness company founder on Twitter.

“THIS IS THE CEO OF CROSSFIT .. a man dedicated to making ppl healthy . Ban this bastard and tag ur fave black fit inspo !!!” she wrote, quote-tweeting a post of his on Saturday (June 6).

The post was in response to a message by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, reading “Racism and discrimination are critical public health issues that demand an urgent response.”

Greg replied to that message with “It’s FLOYD-19,” seemingly mocking both the global protests in the wake of George Floyd‘s murder and COVID-19 pandemic as a combined term.

A few days before, Alyssa Royse of Rocket Crossfit called out Greg in an unrelated post about their handling of current issues.

“CrossFit has stayed silent for too long as our country is at a time of reckoning for centuries of systemic racism. They have been called out by countless gyms and athletes and brands alike for their silence,” she wrote.

“I’m using Greg Glassman‘s response as the header image for this blog post because I think it really says all that needs to be said about their response when called out. The gaslighting, the belittling…we’ll soon be relaunching as Rocket Community Fitness. Because cannot stand on the wrong side of history, even if we lose friends because of it. BLACK LIVES F–KING MATTER.”

She also called out various posts from the brand’s Instagram about the pandemic, which have received backlash for being insensitive.
