Walmart Is Ending This Racist Policy In Some Of Their Stores

Walmart will be ending its practice of locking up beauty products for Black people behind glass cases.

The retail giant announced the news this week, amid the uproar of racial inequality.

Criticism for Walmart‘s practice was heightened and most have said that the practice of putting those products behind cases is a form of racial targeting.

Previously, Walmart had stated that certain products were locked up because they were more likely to be stolen.

“As a retailer serving millions of customers every day from diverse backgrounds, Walmart does not tolerate discrimination of any kind,” Lorenzo Lopez, a Walmart spokesman, shared with press in an email. “We’re sensitive to the issue and understand the concerns raised by our customers and members of the community and have made the decision to discontinue placing multicultural hair care and beauty products — a practice in place in about a dozen of our 4,700 stores nationwide — in locked cases.”

The end of the practice follows a lawsuit in which a woman sued Walmart because products were locked behind the case, and pointed out the discrimination practice.
