Will Smith To Portray Real Life Runaway Slave in 'Emancipation'

Will Smith has lined up his next movie role where he’ll be playing a real life runaway slave.

Variety reports that the 51-year-old actor will star in Emancipation as Peter, a real-life runaway slave who fought to evade his hunters through the Louisiana swamp in his journey to join the Union army.

The movie will be helmed by Antoine Fuqua with William N. Collage writing the script.

Emancipation will also be introduced to buyers at Cannes Film Festival’s virtual market.

Filming on the project is expected to start in 2021 with Will, James Lassiter and Jon Mone also serving as producers.

Before coronavirus shut down productions, Will was filming on King Richard and will hopefully be returning to that set fairly soon.

You can check out Will filming on that set on now!
