James Cameron Returns to Film 'Avatar' Sequels Amid Quarantine

Avatar is back in action.

The sequels to the blockbuster film are now in production again in New Zealand with director James Cameron, three months after shutting down amid the pandemic.

Producer Jon Landau posted a photo from the set showing the very first shot since they resumed production. The crew was able to return to set following a mandatory 14-day self-isolation period.

“Used my iPhone to snap a picture of our first shot back in production on the Avatar sequels,” producer Jon Landau wrote in a post that featured the director behind a long camera crane. Everyone in the shot is seen wearing face masks and shields.

The crew returned to the set following a mandatory 14-day self-isolation period.

The first Avatar sequel is still set for a December 2021 release. Three more sequels are then expected to follow in 2023, 2025 and 2027.
