Joanna Cole, Author of 'The Magic School Bus' Books Dies at 75

Rest in Peace to Joanna Cole.

The famed author of “The Magic School Bus” book series has passed away at the age of 75 from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in Sioux City, Iowa, AP is reporting.

Scholastic honored Joanna in a statement following the news of her passing.

“Joanna Cole had the perfect touch for blending science and story,” Scholastic Chairman and CEO Dick Robinson shared. “Joanna’s books, packed with equal parts humor and information, made science both easy to understand and fun for the hundreds of millions of children around the world who read her books and watched the award-winning television series.”

There are 13 books in “The Magic School Bus” series and centers on educator Ms. Frizzle leading her students on journeys that explored everything from the solar system to underwater and beyond.

A fourteenth book, “The Magic School Bus Explores Human Evolution”, is expected to come out next spring.

The books have sold tens of millions of copies and also inspired an animated TV series and a Netflix series. A live-action movie is also on the way, with this actress starring as Ms. Frizzle!
