Yoenis Cespedes Update: Mets Baseball Player Decides To Opt Out of Season

Yoenis Cespedes has been found after not showing up to the ballpark for a scheduled baseball game on Sunday (August 2).

The 34-year-old baseball player for the New York Mets caused concern earlier in the day when he didn’t show up and the team was unable to contact him to locate where he was.

After the game concluded, an update of Yoenis‘ location and reason was revealed.

MLB.com writer Anthony DiComo revealed that Yoenis has made the decision to not play the rest of the reschedule baseball season due to COVID-19 coronavirus concerns.

Tim Healey, who writes for Newsday, explained more details and shared part of the statement from the Mets.

“Mets had no idea that Yoenis Cespedes was opting out of the season,” he wrote, “Cespedes’ agent called the Mets and told them near the end of the game.”

The statement from Mets’ GM Brodie Van Wagenen said that Yoenis had opted out and that the team “supports every player’s right to make this type of decision. It was surprising, without question.”

Earlier in the day, Brodie released another statement about the attempts to get in touch with Yoenis ahead of the game, where the Mets lost 4-0.
