YouTubers Alan & Alex Stokes Arrested & Charged With Felonies Because of Bank Robbery Prank They Filmed Last Year

Alan and Alex Stokes, twin YouTubers, have been arrested after posting a prank online that shows them pretending to be bank robbers.

The 23-year-old creators are actually facing one count of felony each of “false imprisonment effected by violence, menace, fraud, or deceit and one misdemeanor count of falsely reporting an emergency.”

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced the charges in press release on Wednesday, August 5, via People.

The video of the prank has been taken down from their channel, but showed both Alan and Alex, in all black and wearing ski masks, ordering an Uber driver as their “getaway”.

The twins posed as bank robbers while trying to get the Uber driver to drive them away from the building.

The driver refused to drive them, and a bystander believed they were trying to carjack the Uber driver. The driver was also ordered out of the car at gunpoint by police, and was released after they realized he was not involved.

“These were not pranks,” Orange County DA Todd Spitzer said in a statement. “These are crimes that could have resulted in someone getting seriously injured or even killed. Law enforcement officers are sworn to protect the public and when someone calls 911 to report an active bank robbery they are going to respond to protect lives. Instead, what they found was some kind of twisted attempt to gain more popularity on the internet by unnecessarily putting members of the public and police officers in danger.”

Alan and Alex could face up to four years in state prison, if convicted.

Earlier in the day, the FBI swarmed this other YouTuber’s home!
