Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Explains Why She Nominated Bernie Sanders During Democratic Convention

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is explaining what she said during the 2020 Democratic Convention.

While appearing during the virtual DNC on Tuesday (August 18), the 30-year-old U.S. Representative praised Senator Bernie Sanders‘ campaign, before seconding his nomination for president.

AOC‘s nomination for Sanders confused viewers – since Vice President Joe Biden is the official Democratic nominee – so she took to Twitter to explain.

“If you were confused, no worries!” AOC tweeted. “Convention rules require roll call & nominations for every candidate that passes the delegate threshold. I was asked to 2nd the nom for Sen. Sanders for roll call. I extend my deepest congratulations to @JoeBiden – let’s go win in November.”

AOC then went on to show her support for Biden.

“Congratulations, @JoeBiden – I deeply look forward to fighting for our future together and reclaiming our democracy in November,” AOC tweeted. “Thank you @DemConvention for having me deliver Sen. Sanders’ roll call nomination speech. It’s been an absolute honor. #NotMeUs & #Biden2020.”
