Microsoft Will Not Be Acquiring TikTok After ByteDance Rejects Offer

Bad news for TikTok fans.

It looks like the social media app will not be acquired by Microsoft after TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has rejected their offer.

“ByteDance let us know today they would not be selling TikTok’s U.S. operations to Microsoft. We are confident our proposal would have been good for TikTok’s users, while protecting national security interests. To do this, we would have made significant changes to ensure the service met the highest standards for security, privacy, online safety and combatting disinformation, and we made these principles clear in our August statement. We look forward to seeing how the services evolves in these important areas,” Microsoft said in a statement on its corporate blog.

Microsoft made a bid for the app’s US operations after President Donald Trump issued an executive order for a ban on it, if not purchased by the deadline of September 20.

The tech giant wasn’t the only one in line to acquire the app, according to Variety. Software company Oracle is the other major candidate for the deal.

Just recently, TikTok announced that they would be suing the Trump Administration over the threat of the ban. Here’s why they came to that decision…
