Disney Pixar's 'Soul' Is Skipping Theaters & Heading to Disney+ This Christmas (At No Extra Charge!)

Disney Pixar‘s Soul is officially going straight to streaming.

The anticipated film is no longer getting a theatrical release, and will instead debut exclusively on Disney+ on Christmas Day (December 25) at no extra charge, THR reported on Thursday (October 8).

“The animated tentpole had been set to croon its way into theaters on Nov. 20. The decision to send the movie to Disney+ both underscores the precarious nature of moviegoing amid the ongoing pandemic, and the importance of Disney+, which has amassed more than 60 million subscribers,” THR reported.

The movie’s arrival to Disney+ also differs from the launch of Mulan, which came at a premium price.

“In markets where Disney+ isn’t available, the movie will be released theatrically. Dates are to follow,” THR adds.

Here’s a plot summary: “Joe Gardner is a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22, who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may just discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions.”

The movie features the voices of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Angela Bassett, Questlove and Daveed Diggs.

The upcoming movie just recently debuted a new trailer and poster – check it out now!
