Indigenous Actress Alyssa Wapanatâhk To Play Tiger Lily in 'Peter Pan & Wendy' Adaption

Alyssa Wapanatâhk has been cast to play the role of Tiger Lily in the upcoming adaption of Peter Pan & Wendy.

The Wrap reports that the Canadian actress will take on the part that has become quite controversial with the animated Disney movie.

Tiger Lily will be reimagined for the live action adaption, which will also star Ever Anderson and Jude Law.

“This just in… SO excited for this new journey ✨ #tigerlilly #peterpanandwendy #disney,” she wrote after the announcement.

Alyssa is a member of Cree (Nêhiyaw) First Nation, and just recently changed her name from Alyssa Alook to Alyssa Wapanatâhk.

“This has been a long term career move that I have been waiting to make for quite some time. I’ve always resonated with my name ‘Wapanatâhk’. This translates to ‘first star in the sky’ or ‘morning star’,” she wrote on her Instagram just a few weeks before the announcement. “I was given this name at birth and it feels very right to change my name to this now.”
