Mandalorian Season Finale "The Rescue" Surprise End Credits Scene Explained!

Mandalorian Season Finale

Today the much anticipated season finale of The Mandalorian is out on Disney+.

Chapter 16 is called “The Rescue” and it has a surprise after-credits scene with a huge announcement. We’re here to breakdown what in the world happened during this scene.

Fair warning – SPOILERS AHEAD, so please turn away if you don’t want to find out what happens!

At the end of the credits, we’re back at Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine. The scene takes place at Jabba the Hutt’s old palace which is still active; filled with those green pig-faced Gamorrean guards and even a Twi’lek slave girl.

But instead of seeing Jabba the Hutt (who met his demise in Return of the Jedi), it’s his slimy assistant, Bib Fortuna, who has taken up the mantle as head gangster of Jabba’s palace.

Just like Princess Leia once did, we then see Fennec Shand, played by Ming Na Wen descend down the dusty staircase and blast away all the guards, free the Twi’lek slave, and leave only Bib Fortuna sitting nervously on his throne.

Here we see none other than Boba Fett arriving. Bib Fortuna immediately recognizes him, but it’s short lived, as Boba Fett (played by Temuera Morrison) raises his blasters and ends Bib’s life.

It’s at this point, he shoves Bib’s lifeless body off the throne, and he gloriously sits in his place, taking over Jabba’s palace.

It’s here the screen goes to black and we see a title card that says “The Book of Boba Fett” coming December 2021!

This is a surprise announcement on the much anticipated Boba Fett stand alone series. And now we know what it will be called! Once again this episode of the Mandalorian does not disappoint and we can’t wait for next year.

This was a fitting surprise especially with the recent news that the original actor Jeremy Bulloch passed away today.

Mark Hamill paid a touching tribute to him on his twitter.

In case you missed, The Book of Boba Fett is yet another exciting addition to the dozens of shows recently announced and coming to Disney+.
