NFL Quarterback Philip Rivers Retires After 17 Seasons in the League

Philip Rivers is moving on.

The Indianapolis Colts star quarterback announced on Wednesday (January 20) that he would be retiring.

The 39-year old told the San Diego Union-Tribune, “It’s just time. It’s just right.”

Philip has played a total of 17 seasons in the NFL and retires with an incredibly impressive career, having thrown more than 63,000 passing yards, logging 421 passing touchdowns and making 8 Pro Bowls. He played the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Philip also revealed that after his retirement he would focus on coaching high school football. He told the San Diego Union-Tribune, “What has helped me come to this (decision) is the growing desire to coach high school football,” he said. “That’s what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s been growing. I can’t wait.”

It was announced last May that Philip would serve as the head football coach at St. Michael Catholic High School Fairhope, Ala. after retiring.

A few weeks ago, star quarterbacks Tom Brady and Drew Brees shared a touching moment on the field – check out the video here.
