Fiona Apple Reveals Why She Won't Go To The Grammys

Fiona Apple might have won at the 2021 Grammys during the pre-ceremony already, but fans won’t see her attend the award show this year, or ever.

The 43-year-old shared a video of her reasons why she won’t attend.

“It’s not because I’m trying to protest, even though I have problems with the Grammys, it’s not because of that,” she shared in the video. “It’s really because I don’t want to be on national television — I’m just not made for that kind of stuff anymore. I want to stay sober and I can’t do that sober — it doesn’t feel safe to me to be under exposure, scrutiny, comparison to people. I can’t. I don’t wanna do it. So I’m not gonna do it.”

Fiona also explained that there is favoritism in the selection of the winners, which is something that’s been pointed out many times since the 2021 nominations were announced.

“There’s been lots of questions about the transparency of the Grammys,” she shared, saying that the “people who you wanna win, win.”

“I feel like that’s important, but it’s not important,” Fiona added. “What really really is undeniably important is the transparency in actual court rooms.”

Fiona is hoping to keep court rooms virtually open to the public for a fair trial for all accused: “They’re trying to shut us out, and you gotta question it, like why are you trying to shut us out? What don’t you want us to see?”

During the premiere ceremony, Fiona won the Grammy for Best Rock Performance for “Shameika”.
