Queen Elizabeth Cancels Birthday Celebration for a Second Year Amid Pandemic

Queen Elizabeth is once again canceling Trooping the Colour.

The British royal, who will be ringing in her 95th birthday in April, has canceled the traditional parade for the second year amid the pandemic, Buckingham Palace confirmed Friday (March 19).

Plans for a smaller celebration, likely to take place at Windsor Castle, are currently being explored.

“Following consultation with Government and other relevant parties it has been agreed that The Queen’s Official Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour, will not go ahead this year in its traditional form in central London. Options for an alternative Parade, in the quadrangle at Windsor Castle, are being considered,” the Palace said in a statement.

The annual Garter service that usually takes place at St. George’s Chapel afterward, will also not be taking place.

Before the pandemic, the Trooping the Colour celebration brought thousands of people out onto the streets of central London to see the procession of horseback-riding royals and carriages. This year’s celebration was set for June 12.

It’s not exactly a secret that many of the royal families of Europe are well off. But have you ever wondered where they get that wealth or how much they get at all? Find out inside!
