Actress Sean Young Dishes On Being Blacklisted & The Directors Who Are Part of The Toxic Environment in Hollywood

Sean Young is calling out big name directors and getting candid about the toxic environments that she worked with during her early career.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, the now 61-year-old actress, who you might recognize from Ace Ventura, and the original movies of Blade Runner and Dune, is opening up about how her career was derailed due to some directors not knowing how to approach her straight forwardness.

In the middle of her emerging career, Sean was labeled as “difficult,” and was soon blacklisted from major movies following difficult working situations with her male co-stars and directors.

While Sean says she always felt that she was down-to-earth and straightforward with other people, she now realizes that she might have been perceived as “offensive.”

“That was not my intention,” she shared. “I only got offensive later because I started getting pissed off, like, ‘This is serious. This is my career. You don’t just blacklist me.’ It’s terrible.”

Sean recalled one situation with James Woods after they starred in The Boost together.

Following the premiere, he had filed a harassment lawsuit against her, and at the time didn’t know the reason behind it. Sean ended up winning that suit.

“I couldn’t wrap my head around it,” Sean said. “It was so nutty and stupid, and a waste not only of my time but not good for himself. Why take all the attention off this movie and put it on this?”

That isn’t the only incident either with toxic men in Hollywood.

Two other directors Sean names were Warren Beatty and “Steven Spielberg was another.”

Sean doesn’t think Warren was the worst either, adding “I think the sleazy or difficult part is that he probably thought he was treating me really well. You know what I’m saying? It’s not just Warren — it’s across the board. Ever since the movie business began, women have been treated as a commodity. There was always someone grabbing you, and I just ignored it. I mean, have you taken a look at Harvey Weinstein? How the f*** is he gonna get laid unless he has power? Never.”

She recalled when Harvey exposed himself to her on the set of Love Crimes and told him that “I really wouldn’t be pulling that thing out because it’s really not pretty. Put that little thing away.”

Sean says that this was when she was blacklisted even more for saying no. Many others, like Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan and Mira Sorvino have also spoken out against Harvey.

“And you have to remember, someone that gross, think of who they really are inside,” Sean added. “I think his game plan was: ‘Be as powerful as possible so I can get laid.’ That’s as simple as most of these plans are for people. It doesn’t get a lot deeper than that.”

Then, there was Ridley Scott, who is currently directing Lady Gaga in House of Gucci.

Sean recalled the aggressive love scene in Blade Runner with Harrison Ford, and she is confident in saying that it was that way because Ridley wanted to date her, and she wasn’t interested.

“I think Ridley was like, ‘f*** you.’ I was thinking, ‘Why did this have to be like that? What was the point of that?’ and I think it was Ridley’s none-too-subtle message that he was getting even with me.”

She was part of the sequel Blade Runner 2049, but only for a 30-second hologram cameo.

“Wasn’t that so full of s***?” Sean says. “And there was nothing I could do about it. It was very clear that they knew that the audience would be upset that I wasn’t in it, but they didn’t want me to b**** about that publicly. So, they paid me some money, made me sign a non-disclosure agreement and gave me 30 seconds. And I was like, fine.”

She adds that “they did give my son Quinn a job … in visual arts, and I said all was forgiven. He’s got great skills.”

There was one man who stood out though and wasn’t part of the toxicity she was so used to – Jim Carrey.

Together, they starred in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and said that Jim fought for her to have the role of Lt. Lois Einhorn aka Ray Finkle in the movie.

“He’s the only leading man who ever did that for me. Jim came in and said, ‘No, no, no. Whatever you’re hearing is bullshit. She’s great.’”

Sean currently stars in indie movie, Rain Beau’s End.
