Alexander Skarsgard Learned Sign Language to Communicate with His 'Godzilla vs. Kong' Co-Star

Alexander Skarsgard is learning a new language.

The actor revealed that he had picked up ASL while shooting his new movie Godzilla vs. Kong in an interview with Australian pop culture website Junkee on Thursday (March 25).

Newcomer Kaylee Hottle plays Jia, a young deaf girl who is able to speak with King Kong through sign language. Alexander shared that he learned American Sign Language in order to communicate with his co-star, who is deaf in real life.

“It’s her first movie,” Alexander said. “It’s fascinating how comfortable she is in front of the camera and how quickly she takes notes from the director Adam [Wingard]. He’ll explain something and she’ll be like, ‘Got it, got it.’ Then she’ll just do it and everyone’s like, ‘The f-ck… how did she?’”

“She’s so professional,” the actor continued. “There’s so much going on on her face, her expression, and the subtleties of that is fascinating to watch.”
