Alabama Shakes Drummer Steven William Johnson Arrested on Child Abuse Charges (Report)

Steven William Johnson, the drummer for Grammy award-winning band Alabama Shakes, is reportedly being charged with child abuse.

Steven was arrested on Wednesday (March 24) on charges of child abuse and violating a domestic violence protection order in Limestone County, Alabama, per E! News.

He reportedly pled guilty for violating a domestic violence order and received a suspended sentence of a year in jail with 24 months on probation in March 2020.

According to local news station WHNT, Limestone County Grand Jury charged him with “willful torture, willful abuse, and cruelly beating or otherwise willfully maltreating a child under the age of 18.”

The musician was reportedly taken to Limestone County Jail with a bond set at $21,500. His court date has been set to April 7, however there’s a possibility to it will be rescheduled amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Steven is a founding member of Alabama Shakes, which started in 2009 and went on to win four Grammy Awards, including Best Alternative Music Album, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance and Best American Roots Performance.

The group went on hiatus in 2018 as lead singer Brittany Howard pursued a solo career.
