Bob Odenkirk Reveals Which Actor Yelled at Him When He Was an 'SNL' Writer

Before Bob Odenkirk broke out as a TV and movie star, he served as a writer on Saturday Night Live!

The 58-year-old actor was on the NBC show’s writing team from 1987 through 1991 and worked alongside such stars as Conan O’Brien, Adam Sandler, David Spade, and Chris Rock.

Bob won an Emmy for being on the writing team and eventually left the show to pursue performing.

While promoting his new movie Nobody, Bob opened up about the guest host who yelled at him over the monologue that he wrote.

It was Jeremy Irons!

Rob Schneider and I had written this monologue, and it wasn’t great,” Bob said while appearing on The Howard Stern Show this week. “He was right. He was really mad. He was so mad.”

While talking on the radio show, Bob did an impression of Jeremy and what he said in that moment. He said, “I can sing. I can dance. I can juggle. I am a Shakespearean-trained actor. And you have me doing this?!”

Bob revealed that he secretly was recording the conversation. He said, “I had a little recorder, and I taped it because I loved it so much. And he was right, God bless him. It wasn’t a great monologue, but he’s a trooper.”

“I played it for many people,” he added. “I don’t know where it is now. It’s at the bottom of a bin somewhere. It exists.”
