Rapper DMX's Family Speaks Out Following Overdose & Are Planning a Prayer Vigil

DMX‘s family are speaking out following the devastating news from this weekend that he had overdosed.

“We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges,” the rapper’s family shared in a statement, via People.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, overdosed on on Saturday and was taken to a hospital in New York, where he is currently in a “vegetative state”, his manager says.

“We’re just praying,” manager Nakia Walker said, and added that only his mother and fiancee have been allowed to see him in the hospital.

She also indicated that he was “still in the same condition — in a vegetative state, [with] lung and brain failure and no brain activity” at the start of this week.

Since more family, and fans are not permitted inside the hospital, the family have planned a prayer vigil for DMX to take place outside the White Plains Hospital at 5pm tonight.
