Bush told People that he wrote in Condoleeza Rice on the ballot for the 2020 presidential election. She served as his secretary of state from 2005 to 2009.

“She knows it,” Bush said in the interview. He added, “But she told me she would refuse to accept the office.”

While speaking on The Today Show on Thursday morning (April 22), Bush also talked about the contemporary Republicans who support Trump, calling them “isolationist, protectionist and, to a certain extent, nativist.”

“It’s not exactly my vision,” he added. “I am just an old guy they put out to pasture — just a simple painter.”
