Tom Brady Puts NFL on Blast for Jersey Number Rule Change

Tom Brady is not happy with a new change.

The 43-year-old football superstar spoke out on social media on Friday (April 23) about the NFL‘s announcement that uniform restrictions will ease in 2021, allowing players to wear single digits and other number combinations.

While the news was met with approval by many NFL players, as it’ll allow them to continue to wear their old college jersey numbers in the NFL, Tom Brady made it abundantly clear that he is not cool with the idea.

In his opinion, the number change will be a safety concern for the offense, including identifying blitzers or who’s the middle linebacker of the defense.

“Good luck trying to block the right people now! Going to make for a lot of bad football!” he wrote on Instagram, along with a screenshot of the new numbers.

He also posted a screen capture of a story about the rule, writing “DUMB” and “Why not let the Lineman wear whatever they want too? Why have numbers? Just have colored jerseys…why not wear the same number?…DUMB.”

The NFL’s new rule allows quarterbacks, punters and place-kickers to wear numbers 1-19, defensive backs 1-49, and then running backs, tight ends and wide receivers 1-49 and 80-89. Offensive linemen can wear 50-79, defensive linemen 50-79 and 90-99, and linebackers 1-59 and 90-99, via ESPN.

In personal news, Tom Brady got to enjoy a fun family vacation earlier in the month.
