CDC Announces Fully Vaccinated Americans Can Largely Return to Life Without Masks

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made a huge announcement on Thursday (May 13).

The CDC revealed that there is a big change regarding those individuals in the United States who are fully vaccinated.

According to the new announcement, the CDC will no longer recommend masks for fully-vaccinated Americans indoors or outdoors, including in crowds, via ABC News.

The new recommendation cites buses, planes, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters as exceptions, however.

The announcement follows a series of previous announcements, loosening up restrictions due to the distribution of vaccines.

The CDC pointed to data from the last few weeks showing the effectiveness of vaccines in the real world, including against variants, making it unlikely for vaccinated people can transmit the virus.

“Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing. If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic. We have all longed for this moment when we can get back to some sense of normalcy,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in the briefing.

States will still have the choice to implement their own guidelines.
