Kumail Nanjiani to Play Chippendales Creator in Hulu Series 'Immigrant'

Kumail Nanjiani is taking on a new project.

The 43-year-old The Big Sick actor is set to star in Hulu’s upcoming limited series Immigrant, per Deadline.

The show will focus on the origin story of the stripper troupe Chippendales and the its creator, Somen “Steve” Banerjee, an Indian American entrepreneur.

Immigrant will recount the darkly comic, crime-ridden story behind the cultural phenomenon. Somen was charged with plotting to kill a number of Chippendales producers, dancers and choreographers in the early 1990s and eventually pleaded to arson, racketeering and murder for hire.

The show is being written by Pam & Tommy creator Robert Siegel, who will also act as a producer on the project. The series will also be produced by Kumail, Dylan Sellers and Kumail‘s wife Emily V. Gordon as well as writers Rajiv Joseph and Mehar Sethi.

Kumail recently revealed something major about his upcoming Marvel movie Eternals.
