Zack Snyder Reveals Why He Actually Did Ban Chairs From 'Army Of The Dead' Set

Last year, it was rumored that director Christopher Nolan banned chairs from the set of his movies.

While he dunked the gossip, there is one director who did ban chairs from his movie set – Zack Snyder.

In a new interview, Zack confirmed that he did not allow any chairs for cast or crew to sit in while filming Army of the Dead.

“There’s no sitting down, like, I banned chairs from the set,” he shared on The Playlist’s podcast.

He explained that the nice thing about that is that “it’s really intimate. I can just talk to the actors right there, I’m not back in a monitor across the room. It was definitely the most purely engaged I’ve been making a movie.”

The rumor about Christopher Nolan was revealed during an interview with Anne Hathaway, who starred in his Interstellar movie.

However, a rep for him refuted the claim.

“For the record, the only things banned from [Christopher Nolan's] sets are cell phones (not always successfully) and smoking (very successfully),” they said. “The chairs Anne was referring to are the directors chairs clustered around the video monitor, allocated on the basis of hierarchy not physical need. Chris chooses not to use his but has never banned chairs from the set. Cast and crew can sit wherever and whenever they need and frequently do.”

Army of the Dead is currently in theaters and will debut on Netflix, May 21.
